FAQs

We've put together the most frequently asked questions we are asked about the THc Sunrise Walk. If you have any other questions just give us a call on 01753 848927 or email sunrisewalk@thameshospicecare.org.uk.

How long will the walk take?

Depending on how fast your pace is, we would anticipate it taking between 2 and 6 hours to complete the 5 mile and 10 mile walk. Don't forget, it's not a race and there is no pressure to finish in a designated time.

I want to walk quickly, is this going to be possible?

It is possible but please remember it is not a race and that for safety reasons no walker must pass the lead marshall at the front of the walk.

Is there a minimum or maximum age limit?

The THc Sunrise Walk is open to ladies over the age of 13, but we do ask if you are aged between 13 and 17 you are accompanied by an adult.

What about the men?

You are very important to us and many give their support by helping to marshall at this event, click here for further information. Others sign up for the THc Santa Dash, click here for more details.

Is the route suitable for wheelchair users?

Yes. The starting point at Thames Valley Athletics Centre is accessible and the route can accommodate all abilities. Please contact us prior to completing the registration form to discuss your needs.

What time should I arrive?

The start is at Thames Valley Athletics Centre, Eton and will be open for registration at 5am. There will be refreshments and a fun warm up for everybody before we set off at around 5am.

Where can I park?

Parking is limited at Thames Valley Athletics Centre, Eton where we start from, however upon the event Thames Hospicecare will provide individuals with information on nearest parking.

Will I be able to leave my personal belongings somewhere safe?

Unfortunately we will not have facilities for personal belongings so please only bring what is essential and can be carried with you.

Will there be toilets en route?

There are toilets at Thames Valley Athletics Centre and there will be access to public toilets along the route.

Will there be first aiders if we need them?

We will have marshalls stationed along the route, who will be clearly identifiable. If you feel unwell or unable to continue at any point along the route please alert a marshall immediately, who will call for first aid support.

Can I get food and drink during the walk?

There will be water stations on the route, feel free to bring your own refreshments to consume along the way. Please note NO alcohol will be permitted at any point. When you finish walking we will welcome you back with hot drinks and bacon butties (or veggie option) before you set off home for a well earned rest!

Can my dog accompany me?

Sorry, but we cannot accommodate dogs except for Guide Dogs and Hearing Dogs for the Deaf.

I'm not sure what I should wear?

The most important thing is to wear comfortable shoes and clothes. The weather is unpredicatable so make sure you have enough warm clothing and waterproofs if it is wet. Please wear your THc Sunrise Walk T-shirt and fantastic beannie hat. Please also display walker number.

How do I get my THc Sunrise Walk T-shirt & THc Sunrise Beannie Hat?

T-shirts will be posted out to you with your joining pack. Please indicate on your registration form what size T-shirt you require.

Can we walk as a group?

Yes, the more the merrier! Each member of any group must register individually and nominates a team leader who we can use as a contact for the group.

Is there a minimum amount we have to raise?

We haven't set a minimum sponsorship amount, but please raise as much as you can, every pound matters:

£20 pays for a bubbly, scent filled bath, and the chance to relax in safety in one of our fully nurse assisted bathrooms.

£180 pays for three visits at home from a THc Hospice at Home nurse, offering support to a patient and their carer.

Go to Tips for Fundraising to get some ideas of how to increase your sponsorship.

How can I go about getting sponsored?

You can either download the sponsor form or call in to the Hospice and collect one, or set up your own fundraising page on Just Giving or Virgin

Why should I Gift Aid my sponsorship and how do I do it?

Gift Aid allows us to reclaim the tax on donations at a rate of 28%, meaning that for every £1 raised we can claim an extra 28p making it worth £1.28 to THc! Each UK tax payer that sponsors you can 'Gift Aid' their donation by ticking the box on the sponsor form or on the JustGiving website, just ensure they provide their full name, address and postcode. So for every £150 raised we can increase it to £192 at no extra hassle to you!

How do I get my sponsor money to you?

We won't have the facilities to take sponsor money on the day so please return your money to us by Friday 5th September 2010. Please make cheques payable to Thames Hospicecare and don't forget to include your sponsorship form so we are able to reclaim the Gift Aid and thank you personally for all your hard work.

If you have set up a Just Giving or Virgin Money Giving page your sponsorship money will come directly to THc, so you don't have anything else to do!

We hope that you will have fun training and taking part in the THc Sunrise Walk, thank you for taking part to support the Hospice's work and thank you for raising funds for us.
